A Day in the Life – Backwards

March #SOLC Day 21

sol[1]

I stole (not borrowed!) this format from Susanne at Make.Share.Give.  after seeing it on the TWT yesterday from Betsy.  I started writing it first thing in the morning and then I paid close attention to my day and what might fit in to each line.  It was a really fun way to slice.  Thanks for the inspiration!
Enjoyed a blast from the past concert by the band; Foreigner.  We also had a “meet and greet” before hand so we got the all important…..AUTOGRAPHS!!  I also ended the evening with severe hearing loss in my left ear.  I really, really hope it returns.

Before that,  Drove home from the concert with a left ear that vacillated between a severe ringing to a dull ache to nothing.  It was the nothing that scared me.

Before that,  Sat in the third row of the Foreigner concert – with a gigantic, humongous speaker directly to the (slight) left of me.  We knew every single song and we sang along.  They did a lot of running around on stage, the lead singer even came out into the crowd.  I should have walked out into the lobby when I realized what the music was doing to my body – but it was so darned good.

Before that,  Ate in a dumpy Chinese restaurant that ended up having pretty good food.  Then the dishwasher showed up for his shift.  I think he was one of the guys that approached us for money on the street.

Before that,  Drove about an hour and a half up north to see a concert.  Tried to eat dinner ahead of time, but most businesses in the town were shut down with windows boarded up.  It was sad.  We were approached by three homeless people at three different times.  Once we finally got our money ready to give to someone, there was no one there to give it to.  They had moved on.

Before that,  Met with the literacy coaches in our district.  I always enjoy time with them.  They are such a hardworking group of women.

Before that,  Talked and laughed with the secretaries in my office as they ate lunch.  It was nice.

Before that,  Sat at my desk and did way too much paperwork, made phone calls and answered e-mails…but it was necessary and good to get it out of the way.

Before that,  Shared my slice with my tech guy (because it was about him).  Wasn’t sure how he’d take it.  He replied with “This is just AWESOME!” and then a bunch of other words that were very techy that I didn’t understand.

Before that,  Got my slice finished and published early, for a change!

Before that,  Drove to work from the north side.  Got there much earlier than usual.

Before that,  Woke up at 5 a.m. so I could to take Kathy to her co-workers place on the north side so she could hitch a ride to work with her.

  1. This is a great format- I might give it a try tomorrow. Thanks! I love the part about the techy words. Made me chuckle. I can commiserate with the hearing loss. I’ve been there. 🙂

  2. Love this! I may have to steal…ahem….borrow this idea for a future post and to share with my students. I teach ELLs and this would be a great way to go review past tense verbs! Thanks for sharing.

  3. I appreciated this style when it was posted before and even more now. What a wonderful feeling to write about someone and have them like what you wrote 🙂

  4. Wow!! What a busy day, and what an awesome stolen format. I may have to steal from you one day, although I am not sure I will be able to pull it of so smoothly. Not sure I can pull it off………super jealous that you went to see Foreigner. Totally worth a little hearing loss……ha ha

  5. What a great format! I love the idea of starting with the ending first and working your way back to see what came before. I’m tucking this away, both for me and my students. 🙂

  6. I have to try this strategy!!!! You are inspiring me! Really enjoyed being part of your day and how your list of things had some good surprises and memories! So glad you shared your slice with your tech guy…bet it was great to hear him say what he did (minus the techy jargon!)
